This research paper examines the effectiveness of cell grazing compared to continuous grazing on pasture management in New South Wales, Australia. The study focuses on how different grazing methods affect the composition of pasture species, particularly looking at the most and least palatable plants. Using data collected over two years from three sites, the researchers found that cell grazing significantly improves the growth and coverage of desirable pasture species while reducing the presence of less palatable ones. Specifically, the evidence shows that the most palatable species' basal diameters increased or remained stable under cell grazing, while those under continuous grazing significantly declined. Moreover, the percentage ground cover was notably higher in cell-grazed pastures, indicating potential long-term ecological benefits such as better erosion control and nutrient cycling. These findings suggest that adopting cell grazing could enhance pasture health and productivity, providing a credible alternative to conventional grazing practices, which have led to pasture degradation.
